Describing it
In one line, or in a paragraph.
One line · 15 words
CannabisReset is a calm, private app for quitting weed, built from The Quit Cannabis Handbook.
Short · 58 words
CannabisReset is a calm, private app for people who want to quit weed or take a break. It turns The Quit Cannabis Handbook into short audio recordings, ten-second daily check-ins and an AI companion that has read the book and nothing else. There is no account to make, and everything apart from the chat stays on the phone.
Long · 131 words
CannabisReset is a calm, private app for people who want to quit weed or take a break from it. It is built on The Quit Cannabis Handbook by James, who used weed every day for more than thirty years, then co-founded an online support network and ran in-person workshops for people trying to stop. The app follows the book's five stages (preparation, the first days, withdrawal, emotions and recovery) through short recordings, with thirteen recordings for difficult moments, ten-second daily check-ins and an AI companion that draws only on the book. It was designed and built by Adrien Barbusse, who has spent nearly a decade designing mental health products. There is no account, no ads and no tracking. CannabisReset is not a medical service and not a substitute for professional care.
Fair to say it's
- ✓a companion to The Quit Cannabis Handbook
- ✓a self-help app for quitting weed or taking a break
- ✓built on the book, with an AI that only draws on it
- ✓private: no account, and most of it stays on the phone
Please avoid
- ×treatment, therapy or an “AI therapist”
- ×clinically proven, evidence-based, or a cure
- ×a medical device or a replacement for a doctor
- ×addicts, stoners or junkies
The name is CannabisReset: one word, capital C and R. The author goes by James, or by his pen name Clearhead.
The product
What's in the app.
The programme
Five stages, in the order they happen: preparation, the first days, withdrawal, emotions and recovery. Short recordings, two or three minutes each, and the next one opens when you get there.
The toolbox
Thirteen recordings for the moment itself, from “Craving?” and “Can’t sleep?” to “Good day?”. Four stay free for good.
Check-ins
Tap the feeling that’s nearest. Ten seconds a day, and the app suggests what might help.
The companion
An AI you can talk to at 2am that has read the book and nothing else. A disclaimer sits under every conversation, and crisis lines are one tap away.
Deep rest
An hour of hypnotherapy for sleep, recorded by psychotherapist Angela Jullings.
Progress
Days clear, money not spent and pieces heard. No streak to lose: a slip starts the count again, and the days already done stay counted.
Screenshots

Quotes
From the people who made it.
“Weed used to be the most important relationship in my life. More important than my family, my friends, my partner, my work, even my own mental health.”
“After twenty years, nobody is smoking for fun. They’re smoking so they don’t have to feel something. That deserves a companion you can talk to at midnight, not a streak you can break.”
The author
James, who writes as Clearhead
Used weed every day for more than thirty years. A few years after stopping, he and his friend Adrienne built an online support network for people trying to do the same, and in-person workshops grew out of it. The Quit Cannabis Handbook came out of those rooms. He is not a doctor and doesn't claim to be.
The builder
Adrien Barbusse
Has spent nearly a decade designing mental health products used by more than a hundred million people, and now works in clinical intelligence and AI. Designed and built CannabisReset with James.

Context
What the research says about stopping.
For people who use weed daily, withdrawal tends to start within a day or two of stopping, is worst around days two to six, and has largely eased within a fortnight.
Budney et al., Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 2003
The most common withdrawal symptoms are irritability, anxiety, poor sleep and strange dreams, low appetite and restlessness.
Bonnet & Preuss, Substance Abuse and Rehabilitation, 2017
These describe withdrawal in general. They are not claims about how well the app works, and we'd ask that they aren't paired with one. CannabisReset has not been clinically trialled.

Questions
What journalists ask.
Is CannabisReset a treatment?
No. It is a self-help companion to a book. It doesn’t diagnose or treat anything, and it isn’t a substitute for a doctor or a therapist. The app says so when you first open it and under every conversation with the companion.
Do people have to quit for good?
No. Quitting or taking a break is the user’s choice, and the app works the same either way.
What does the AI know?
It is instructed to draw only on the book, so it doesn’t wander into advice it has no business giving. If someone sounds like they’re in danger, it points them to crisis lines.
What leaves the phone?
Only the companion conversations, which go to a cloud AI model to be answered. Check-ins, counters and everything else stay on the device, and one tap deletes the lot. No account, no ads, no trackers.
Who is James?
The author of The Quit Cannabis Handbook. He writes as Clearhead and goes by James. He used weed every day for more than thirty years, then helped build an online support network and ran in-person workshops, which is where the book came from.
